Under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, powers not given to the Federal Government are engaged by the State and local governments. All State Governments are also modeled after the Central Government itself, and are made up of their own executive, legislative and judicial branches. The U.S. Constitution also orders that all states must hold a 'republican form' of government, though having the three branches is not required.
